The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) recorded around 1.6 million visitor arrivals during the National Day holiday from October 1 to 7, over 1.41 million of which were from the Chinese mainland, surpassing last year's record, official figures showed on Thursday.

During the seven-day period, the daily average number of the Chinese mainland visitors stood at around 202,000, peaking on October 1, with approximately 277,000 arrivals, according to an interdepartmental working group meeting on festival arrangements, chaired by Chan Kwok-ki, chief secretary for administration of the HKSAR government.

Meanwhile, Mid-Autumn festivities at Hong Kong's Victoria Park received an enthusiastic response and had their run extended twice, drawing a total of around 730,000 visitors.
