From the Andes to Shanxi: A colorful quinoa harvest

Harvest season has arrived in Jingle, in north China's Shanxi Province, where quinoa fields are transforming the countryside into a vivid patchwork of color. Golden seed heads mingle with shades of red, purple and black, creating striking patterns across the rolling hills.

Originally cultivated in the Andes of South America, quinoa has found favorable growing conditions in Jingle. The county's high elevation, cool climate, abundant sunshine and wide day-to-night temperature range support its growth. From sweeping views of the fields to close-ups of colorful seed heads, the harvest offers a glimpse of how a crop rooted in South America has taken hold in northern China.
