The Trump administration imposed sanctions on the International Criminal Court on Friday, hours after a former judge of the court won the Nobel Peace Prize, putting Washington on a diplomatic collision course with European allies.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the sanctions and warned of their impact on the court's ability to carry out its mandates, according to a statement read by UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric at a press briefing.
"Today's decision marks a serious blow to our collective pursuit of international criminal justice, of which the ICC is a key pillar," he said.
