We Talk: Russian vlogger's experience of China's complaints system

Global Stringer

This year's Beijing Forum on Swift Response to Public Complaints will be held on October 12 and 13 at the China National Convention Center in Beijing. The core concept is "People's City, Better Life," with focus on topics such as modernizing digital and intelligent technologies in cities and strengthening urban governance. How are different cities exploring more timely and efficient ways to respond to resident's everyday concerns? Recently, CGTN collected a wide range of questions from people around the world about China's "Swift Response to Public Complaints" system and invited foreigners who have lived in China for a long time to share thoughts and experiences.

Daniel, a Russian vlogger who has lived in China for over a decade, shared his real experience of using the Zhejiang provincial government service "Zheliban". For a period of time, there were often construction noises and garbage truck sounds near Daniel's home in the early morning, which disturbed his rest. He submitted a complaint and a video in "Zheliban". A few days later, the staff coordinated the construction time and the community returned to quiet. The complaints system works – and fast – because of digitalization, Daniel says. “It has broken down the information silos between various departments”, making public services more efficient and giving foreigners a greater sense of belonging. He is confident that this system will continue to improve, making life easier for more people.
