Traditional medicine is rooted in the environment that we live in, said Anwar Naeem, the secretary general of the Association of Maldivian Indigenous Medicine Practitioners.
Naeem explained that traditional Maldivian medicine draws on various external medicinal traditions, adapting them to the resources available in the Maldives.
"The only thing we have to learn is how to get those elements and then use them as medicine to cure different diseases," he said.
China and the Maldives can promote knowledge-sharing and organize training programs to help traditional Maldivian medicine practitioners learn from their counterparts in traditional Chinese medicine. Such collaboration could help improve public health in both countries, Naeem noted.
