Panama declared a state of emergency on October 10 to coordinate relief efforts and assist communities affected by a magnitude-7.5 earthquake that struck the country a day earlier. Panamanian researchers say more than 200 aftershocks have been recorded since the quake.
A CGTN stringer visited Aquilino Tejeira Hospital in Penonome City to learn about the situation at a hospital. A doctor said surgeries have been suspended due to a collapse inside the operation room. The hospital is prioritizing pregnant women, patients with fractures and others in urgent need of medical care. Still, the hospital has received donations of food, sheets, sanitary products and drinking water to support its earthquake relief efforts.
