01:36

President of the Council of the Togolese Republic, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, sees strong potential for China and Africa to deepen cooperation in maritime security, port logistics and the blue economy.

In an interview with CGTN, he said China's experience and expertise could help African countries enhance maritime security, develop port-related industries, train specialists and improve access to marine data. He also emphasized the need for African countries to move beyond their role as transit hubs and take a more active part in the global economy and governance.

Gnassingbé is visiting China from October 9 to 16.
