With a history spanning more than 4,100 years, Kaifeng in central China's Henan Province flourished during the Northern Song Dynasty (960–1127). Known as Dongjing, the city was then China's political, economic, and cultural center and one of the world's most prosperous metropolises. Today, a 2.5-kilometer boat ride along the Bianhe River offers a glimpse into the ancient capital's glory, connecting rivers and lakes with eight nearby scenic attractions. After dark, illuminated Song Dynasty-style buildings, pavilions, and arched bridges have lined the waterways, bringing the charm of the ancient capital to life.
