Facing overwhelming odds, in October 1934 some 86,000 Red Army troops began a journey that would change Chinese history. What would become the Long March was described by American journalist Edgar Snow, in his book Red Star Over China, as "an odyssey unequaled in modern times."
Ninety years on, American journalist Mike Walter follows in the Red Army's footsteps to the Yudu River in east China's Jiangxi Province. There he meets an 108-year-old woman who has been waiting for over 90 years for her husband, one of the 86,000, to return home.
What can one extraordinary journey tell us about the China of today? Tune in to CGTN's Long March documentary Breaking Through to find out.
