Cotton harvesting and stalk recovery are underway on about 109,700 hectares in Shawan, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Shawan uses domestically produced stalk balers, and its mechanized harvesting rate has reached 99.7%; it plans to recover about 66,700 hectares this year. With nearly $17 million invested in six stations, stalks are processed into pellets for aviation fuel, pulp, feed, fertilizer and biomass fuel, turning farmland waste into ecological and economic gains.
