CGTN

2026 Baoji Marathon officially unveiled the event's mascot, finisher medals and a series of cultural IP products on October 15 at their pre-race media briefing in Baoji, northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

A total of 31,000 runners are expected to take part in the race on October 25. The course has been dubbed the "fastest marathon course" in northwest China for its runner-friendly conditions, including low elevation, flat terrain and mild temperatures, which can help athletes achieve personal bests.

Medal and mascot designs draw on Zhou culture, traditional crafts

The finisher medal takes inspiration from the "Lai Pan," a bronze ritual basin dating back to the Western Zhou Dynasty (1046–771 BC). The design features distinctive dragon patterns on the front and a stylized Chinese phoenix on the back.

The event mascot, named "Baoma," draws inspiration from Fengxiang clay sculpture, a nationally recognized intangible cultural heritage. Known for its deep cultural roots and intricate handmade techniques, the traditional craft is reflected in the mascot's lively, festive style. Its galloping horse design evokes the spirit of marathon running while celebrating local folk art.

Commercial and tourism integration

The event is also expected to boost local tourism and consumption. Registered runners can enjoy free or discounted admission to more than 20 scenic spots by presenting their race credentials. They can also claim vouchers for dining and shopping through designated platforms.

Safety and service guarantees

The organizing committee has upgraded its safety and security measures across the entire event process, involving more than 9,000 staff, including police officers, security personnel and volunteers in event operations.

Local authorities have also deployed 25 ambulances and 105 professional AED rescue personnel for mobile patrols and coordinated with nine designated hospitals to open green channels for medical treatment for the race.
