Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang met representatives of the advisory board of the Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management (Tsinghua SEM) in Beijing on Tuesday.

Ding, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, discussed AI development and governance with the board members.

Apple's Tim Cook attended as board chairman, along with Robin Li of Baidu and Pony Ma of Tencent.

The Tsinghua SEM advisory board was founded in October 2000 to help make the school a world-class center for economic and management.

AI is a key force driving a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, Ding said, stressing the need to develop, apply and govern AI so it benefits all humanity.

The board's new members reflect that shift. In September, it added Jensen Huang of Nvidia, Lisa Su of AMD and Marc Pictet of Pictet Group.

Ding welcomed the representatives' support for the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO) and their participation in its development, to promote shared prosperity and safeguard common security.

He said the advisory board has been an important platform for dialogue, exchange and cooperation between China and other countries over the past 26 years. Ding also said he hoped its members would make further contributions to China's education sector and economic development.

The representatives spoke highly of China's achievements in AI and other fields. They said they would remain committed to the Chinese market, expand cooperation and better fulfill the board's role as a bridge between China and the international community.
