Deepening China-Türkiye strategic cooperation will not only benefit the people of both nations but also boost the global economic recovery, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday while meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on the sidelines of the 7th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Baku.

During the meeting, Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized that China places great importance on its relationship with Türkiye and is willing to elevate bilateral strategic cooperation to new heights.

He stated that China supports Türkiye in hosting the 31st UN Climate Change Conference (COP31), praised Türkiye's proactive efforts in addressing climate change and expressed readiness to deepen cooperation in this field.

Wang also called for closer synergy between the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative and Türkiye's Middle Corridor plan. He stressed that aligning these strategies will create a favorable environment for mutual investment and yield win-win outcomes.

Fidan praised the robust trajectory of Türkiye-China relations, noting that Ankara is ready to accelerate high-level exchanges moving forward. He described the future of bilateral trade and economic ties as promising, adding that Türkiye welcomes Chinese companies to invest in Türkiye and more Chinese tourists to visit, aiming for more balanced and multi-faceted cooperation.

On security and sovereignty matters, Fidan expressed understanding regarding China's counter-terrorism efforts, saying that Türkiye will never allow any activities on its soil that threaten China's security. He also reaffirmed Türkiye's adherence to the one-China principle.

The two foreign ministers exchanged views on pressing international and regional hotspots, including the ongoing situation in the Middle East and the crisis in Ukraine.
