Food security is a core issue in global development governance. China's practices in eliminating rural poverty and advancing agricultural transformation have not only safeguarded its own food security, but are also increasingly seen as a shareable global public good. Donal Brown, associate vice-president of IFAD, points out that the global value of China's experience lies not only in the scale of its poverty reduction, but in its proof that small-scale producers can be effectively included in modernization. From large-scale poverty reduction to inclusive agricultural transformation and appropriate agricultural modernization, China is offering a replicable path for countries in the Global South.
