Yu Yiting's dominant season continued in Astana, where the 21-year-old Chinese swimmer secured her third women's 400m individual medley gold medal of the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup series. Yu had previously topped the podium in the Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan legs and her latest victory in Kazakhstan caps a clean sweep of the event across the series.
Yu dominated from the outset, establishing a formidable lead through the initial strokes. Despite her competitors gaining momentum during the final freestyle leg, she held her ground and touched the wall first with a time of 4 minutes and 22.74 seconds. Japan's Waka Kobori took silver, while Great Britain's Abbie Wood claimed the bronze medal.
Meanwhile, 15-year-old Chang Mohan clinched bronze in the women's 1500m freestyle, completing the race in 15 minutes and 55.61 seconds. Singapore's Gan Ching Hwee took gold, while New Zealand's Caitlin Deans was second.
China's Qin Haiyang narrowly missed capturing gold in the men's 50m breaststroke, clocking in at 25.83 seconds, just 0.06 seconds behind Russia's Kirill Prigoda.
Chen Juner finished with silver in the men's 200m butterfly, unable to secure a third straight World Cup title in this event. Though he led for majority of the race, Chen was ultimately overtaken by Japan's So Ogata in the final 25 meters.
