Under what circumstances would you cut a quilt in half?
In 1934, three female Red Army soldiers sought shelter during the Long March in a villager's home in central China's Hunan Province. The family was too poor to have proper quilts, so the soldiers brought out their own and shared it with them that night. The next morning, before leaving, they cut the quilt in half — leaving one piece behind.
That simple act became a story of warmth remembered for generations.
Nine decades on, inspired by the spirit of mutual trust and helping one another, the small village of Shazhou has undergone a remarkable transformation.
