Over 200,000 hectares of wild desert poplar forests in Bachu County, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, have entered the peak viewing season as the trees' leaves turn yellow and attract visitors with their autumn beauty.
The desert poplar is a hardy tree species known as the "guardian of the desert." It is resistant to low temperatures, drought and saline-alkali soil, and serves as an ideal windbreak and sand-fixation plant.
