French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot on Saturday urged Israel to urgently halt Israeli settlers' violence in the West Bank.

In a post on social media platform X, Barrot said the mayor of the French town of Aulnoye-Aymeries had been violently attacked by extremist settlers in the West Bank.

"The Israeli authorities must imperatively arrest those responsible for these outrageous acts and bring them to justice," he said.

"They must urgently put an end to this criminal violence and guarantee the safety of civilian populations, as they are obliged to do under international law," he added.

Israeli settlers on Saturday attacked European diplomats in the village of Taybeh, near Ramallah in the West Bank, according to the Israeli police, the military and media reports.

According to French daily Le Monde, Bernard Baudoux, the mayor of Aulnoye-Aymeries, was part of the convoy of European diplomats visiting Taybeh. He was there to sign a goodwill cooperation agreement between his town and Taybeh.
