Act to Action: Vietnamese students explore China's rice industry

Global Stringer

A group of Vietnamese students from Shanghai University recently visited Dongzhuang Village in Shitai County, east China's Anhui Province, to explore its rice industry.

For Vietnamese students, rice fields are a familiar sight as rice is an important staple food in both China and Vietnam, but China’s rural rice industry offers a different perspective.

Dongzhuang is an important rice-producing area in the region. Leveraging its selenium-rich soil and modern agricultural technology, the village has been upgrading its rice cultivation, processing and product development, unlocking greater value from every grain of rice while creating more job opportunities for locals.

Through conversations with locals, the students learned how the development of the rice industry is reshaping rural life and bringing new vitality to the countryside.

Pham Khanh Vi, one of the Vietnamese students, said that empowered by high technology, a single grain of rice can be transformed into a wide range of products, helping locals build better lives. She hopes more international visitors will come to Dongzhuang Village, taste its selenium-enriched rice and experience the wonderful life of the local community.
