COP17, or the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), is being held in Yerevan, Armenia, from October 19 to 30.

Held every two years, the meeting brings together countries from around the world to discuss and advance measures to protect the environment.

This year's meeting is significant because it marks a midterm assessment of progress in implementing the 2022 Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, adopted at COP15, which established 23 action targets to be achieved by 2030.
