Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with Fox News on Wednesday that he is open to freezing the front lines of the Russia-Ukraine war as a path toward ending the conflict.
Asked whether he would accept a peace deal that would freeze the status quo, under which Ukraine would retain 75% or more of its territory, Zelenskyy replied, "Yes. Right now, we need to freeze the situation, and I think that's the real path to ending this war. We call it a ceasefire."
Zelenskyy also said he hoped for a positive outcome from US envoy Steve Witkoff's meeting in Russia on Wednesday, and he supported talks between the leaders of Kyiv, Washington and Moscow.
He said his talks with Witkoff in Oslo, Norway, on Tuesday had been productive and that Ukraine was ready for diplomacy.
