Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Abdoulkader Houssein Omar, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Djibouti, in Beijing on Wednesday.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-Djibouti relations have maintained a healthy and stable momentum of development. He noted that political mutual trust has deepened and that cooperation across various fields has brought benefits to the people of Djibouti.

China appreciates Djibouti's adherence to the one-China principle and hopes that Djibouti will continue to firmly support China on issues concerning its core interests, Wang said.

Wang said that China values the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Djibouti and is willing to further deepen pragmatic cooperation with Djibouti, adding that both sides should give full play to China's zero-tariff policy and Djibouti's geographical advantages.

China encourages its enterprises to invest and operate in Djibouti, Wang added.

Since the beginning of this year, Wang said, China has proposed four principles on the constructive participation of relevant parties in the resolution of African hotspot issues, and proposed a series of initiatives on promoting peace and security in the Middle East. These efforts, he noted, demonstrate China's role as a responsible major country and align with people's aspirations for peace in the region.

China is willing to work with Djibouti and other countries to enhance communication and cooperation, strive to ease tensions, and earnestly maintain peace and stability in the region, Wang said.

Omar said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Djibouti has been developing relations with China based on the principles of mutual trust and mutual respect for each other's core interests, adding that Djibouti is willing to further enrich the connotation of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

Omar expressed Djibouti's appreciation for China's contributions to promoting lasting world peace, adding that the two countries share broad consensus on abiding by the purposes of the UN Charter and peacefully resolving disputes, and Djibouti stands ready to enhance communication and dialogue with China on international issues.
