A netizen in north China's Shanxi Province captured a spectacular "space jellyfish" soaring over the Great Wall on Friday evening.
The spectacle was created by a modified Long March-6 rocket, which lifted off at 6:15 p.m. from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center, carrying the Yaogan-50 03 satellite into orbit.
As the rocket reached the upper atmosphere, the low ambient pressure caused its exhaust plume to expand into a massive, bubble-like dome. Sunlight scattered through the atmosphere gave the plume a striking orange-red glow against the evening sky.
