Paris protest shrouded in tear gas as police charge

Riot police clashed with protesters at the end of what was a largely peaceful march over rising living costs and growing inequality in Paris on Saturday as the latest round of protests swept across France.

French police threw tear gas, and protesters launched projectiles. Smoke drifted through the streets, and fireworks were fired near officers.

The Interior Ministry said 410,000 people took part in protests nationwide. Nearly 1,000 people were arrested at Saturday's protests across France, Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said.
