High-wire act: Brave crews rig 5-tonne power line 200 meters up

Trained crews, fully kitted out in safety gear, guide a 5-tonne power conductor into place.

Using heavy-duty pulley systems, they hoist the 2.2-kilometer line to a transmission tower 200 meters above the ground.

The ±800kV UHVDC transmission project completed the large-span stringing construction across the Yangtze River on Monday.

The project has a total length of 2,370 kilometers from northwest China's Gansu Province to east China's Zhejiang Province. Once operational, it will be able to transmit more than 36 billion kWh of electricity to Zhejiang Province annually.
