Chinese envoy urges all parties to facilitate Iran-US talks

Speaking at a UN Security Council briefing, Fu Cong, China's permanent representative to the UN, said the root causes of the current situation in the Middle East were the US unilateral withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and its imposition of maximum pressure on Iran. He added that military strikes by the US and Israel against Iran's nuclear facilities were the direct reason the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been unable to carry out safeguard and monitoring activities at those sites.

Fu said Iran should fulfill its commitment not to develop nuclear weapons, while other parties should respect Iran's right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy and support the IAEA and Iran in resolving relevant issues through dialogue and cooperation.
