China has slammed Japan's tactics of hyping up a so-called "neighboring security threat". Recent data showed that the Japan Air Self-Defense Force scrambled its aircraft 442 times between April and September in response to the approach of Chinese and Russian military aircraft, a 67% increase from the same period last year. On Thursday, Zhang Xiaogang, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of National Defense, urged the Japanese side to stop stoking tensions.
