We Talk: South Africans take on Chinese tongue twisters, eager to learn more

Global Stringer

In recent years, the enthusiasm for learning and using Chinese has continued to grow. Through their learning, people around the world are discovering the richness and diversity of Chinese culture. As a bridge between civilizations, the rising global interest in Chinese reflects a deepening connection between China and the world, opening up new opportunities for shared growth.

CGTN Stringer invited people in South Africa to try Chinese tones and tongue twisters, asking them about their experiences and their plans to study the language in the future. Reshina Umra, a staff member at the International Office of the University of Cape Town, said she needs more practice with pronunciation and is considering enrolling in a beginner Chinese class. Garth Wentley, a PhD student in medical physiology, described Chinese as interesting and a nice language to learn.
