Wang Manyu was made to work hard for her 3-0 win over Hana Goda at the WTT Champions Montpellier with the young Egyptian pushing the world number one all the way in all three frames, each settled by an 11-9 margin.
The contest against Goda proved far more challenging. The first game reached a nail-biting 9-9 before Wang's composure under pressure led her to victory. Similarly, the second game once again crept to 9-9, but Wang's ability to execute in critical moments allowed her to secure another 11-9 win. The 27-year-old, who recently defended both her singles and doubles titles at the China Smash, maintained her focus to close out the match 3-0, with the final game mirroring the others at 11-9. With this win, Wang progresses to the last 16, where she will face fellow Chinese player Chen Yi.
On the men's side, China's Zhou Qihao displayed resilience against the Republic of Korea's Oh Junsung. After dropping the opening two games, both 11-5, Zhou found himself in a precarious position at 4-1 down in the third. The timeout came at a good time for Zhou, allowing him to recalibrate and seize the third game 11-8. Charging forward, Zhou clinched the fourth game 11-5, thereby forcing a decisive fifth game, which he dominated 11-4. Having completed this brilliant comeback, Zhou now prepares to face home favourite Felix Lebrun in the last 16.
