It's apple harvest season in Jixian County, Shanxi Province, where ideal growing conditions produce sweet, crisp and juicy apples.
Jixian lies in what international apple experts recognize as one of the world's prime apple-growing areas, with more than 2,400 hours of sunshine a year and a temperature difference of 12 to 17°C between day and night.
The county has more than 18,600 hectares of apple orchards, producing over 250,000 tonnes of apples a year. They're exported to markets including the UK, the US, Canada and Southeast Asia. Last year, 50 tonnes were shipped to Canada!
So, if you spot apples from Jixian, China, at a store, give them a try!
Thanks to modern cold-storage technology, people in China can enjoy these apples all year round, even though they're harvested mainly in autumn.
