First batch of 589 teachers and students from quake-hit Baqen head to Lhasa to resume classes

Updated 22:27, 01-Nov-2026

Following a magnitude-7.0 earthquake, some school buildings in Baqen County, Nagqu City, in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region were damaged, prompting the transfer of 589 teachers and students on November 1 to Lhasa to resume classes. Over 1,500 teachers and students from the quake-hit area will take part in the phased relocation in three batches, with designated supply stops set up along the route to guarantee smooth resettlement. Meanwhile, campus safety inspections and structural damage assessments are underway across the disaster zone.
