FinTech Week x StartmeupHK 2026 highlights HK's global ambitions

Hong Kong FinTech Week x StartmeupHK 2026 opened on Monday in China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

This year's event draws over 45,000 attendees from more than 120 economies, over 1,000 speakers and some 800 exhibiting institutions and startups.

At the opening ceremony, HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee highlighted the importance of the region's first-ever Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development. He said the plan reinforces HKSAR's status as an international financial, maritime and trade center, as well as an international aviation hub. He said they will accelerate the region's development as both an international innovation and technology center and a hub for high-caliber talent. More than a policy document, the plan portrays HKSAR's outlook for businesses, investors and innovators.
