Shenzhen eco-park blends green innovation with urban leisure

At Shenzhen's Nanshan Energy Ecological Park in south China's Guangdong Province, household waste is turned into electricity, while a former industrial chimney has been transformed into a 72-meter-high coffee bar overlooking the boundless sea. The waste incineration facility processes 2,300 tonnes of household waste daily, generating around 1.4 million kWh of electricity. Incineration residue is made into permeable bricks, while recyclable materials find new life as artworks in a recycling-themed exhibition hall. With interactive educational spaces and public amenities open to visitors, the park is redefining how waste treatment facilities connect with the community, combining environmental sustainability with public engagement and urban leisure.
