The Uruguay edition of China's Governance and Worldwide Development Global Dialogue was held in Montevideo on Wednesday, co-hosted by China Media Group (CMG) and the Chinese Embassy in Uruguay.
Uruguayan Vice President Carolina Cosse and Shen Haixiong, deputy head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and president of CMG, delivered video addresses.
More than 100 guests from the political, business, academic and media sectors attended the event, engaging in discussions on China's approach to national governance, prospects for practical cooperation between China and Uruguay, and ways to deepen South-South cooperation.
Shen noted that the fifth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee had just concluded in Beijing, reviewing the achievements and experience of exercising full and rigorous self-governance over the Party in the new era and setting out systematic arrangements to advance this approach.
As global changes unseen in a century accelerate, an increasing number of countries and political parties are drawing inspiration from China's governance experience and exploring development paths suited to their own national conditions, Shen said.
"We believe the fifth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee will offer valuable insights for Party building, national governance and the improvement of global governance, while contributing more valuable public goods to a world marked by turbulence and change," Shen said.
CMG will continue to share insights into the CPC's approach to governance, tell its stories, build platforms for dialogue and mutual learning, and deepen people-to-people exchanges, Shen said. These efforts will help more countries benefit from China's proposals and experience and inject positive momentum into the cause of world peace and development, he added.
Uruguayan representatives said China's development experience offers a useful reference for Latin American countries as they explore development paths suited to their own national conditions.
With the implementation of China's 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), China and Uruguay are expected to see more opportunities for cooperation, including in trade and investment, green energy and technological innovation. The two sides should also strengthen media and people-to-people exchanges to further advance their comprehensive strategic partnership, they said.
China and Latin American countries should deepen South-South cooperation and multilateral coordination to jointly address global challenges and promote a more just and equitable system of global governance, the representatives added.
Trailers for a selection of CMG's premium productions were also screened at the event, which received coverage from mainstream media outlets in Uruguay.
