AmCham Shanghai president: CIIE is a bridge to China's market for US firms

02:59

The American Food and Agriculture Pavilion officially opened at the 9th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai on November 6.

Organized by AmCham Shanghai and the US Department of Agriculture, this marks the pavilion's fourth year at the expo. And it's off to a roaring start, with a record 40-plus trade associations and companies participating, and more than $650 million in deals signed on day one for products like sorghum, wheat, beef and animal nutrition.

Ahead of the expo, CGTN Digital journalist Shen Shiwei spoke with Eric Zheng, president of AmCham Shanghai, about how the event connects US companies, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, with the Chinese market.

Zheng, who has attended every CIIE since its inception, says the event demonstrates China's openness to foreign products and services, and highlights the highly complementary trade relationship between the world’s two largest economies.
