China says it will work with the international community to promote dialogue between Myanmar and Bangladesh. It aims to promote practical solutions for long-term peace and stability in Myanmar's Rakhine state. It comes after the UN signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Myanmar.
HUA CHUNYING SPOKESPERSON, CHINESE FOREIGN MINISTRY "China believes that Myanmar's Rakhine issue has a complex historical, ethnic and religious background. Myanmar and Bangladesh need to reach a settlement through dialogue and consultation. The international community also needs to play a constructive role. China welcomes the Memorandum of Understanding between UN's High Commissioner for Refugees, UN's Development Programme and the Myanmar government. It shows all parties are making efforts to solve problems through dialogue and cooperation."
