Officials from Vietnam say the country's goal of socialist prosperity will benefit from China's experience.
They made the statements during separate meetings in Hanoi with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi ahead of a visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping next week.
Wang met general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong and Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, among other officials.
"Xi's forthcoming visit to Vietnam will become a new milestone in the communication history of the two countries," Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh said on Thursday.

In his meeting with the Chinese foreign minister on Friday, Nguyen Phu Trong said his country will learn from China's successful experiences to further push forward the development of its own socialist cause.
He said the visit by Xi shows that China attaches great importance to the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries and Vietnam is willing to work with China to further deepen cooperation between the two sides in all fields.

Wang said China and Vietnam should elevate their bilateral ties to a new high and open a new chapter for a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership by building a community with a shared future.
The visit will further consolidate political and strategic mutual trust between the two countries, Xinhua reported.
US President Donald Trump's first diplomatic trip to Asia will also take him to Vietnam in the coming days, as well as China. According to the US side, strengthening international resolve to denuclearize the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific region, and advancing American prosperity through fair and reciprocal trade will be three goals of Trump's visit.
