Mobile Games Market: Mobile games revenue surpasses PC and console gaming
[]
Mobile games have surpassed PC and console gaming to become the leading choice for gamers. And it's expected to become even more dominant in the next few year. CGTN's Mark Niu has the details.
Whether by tablet or phone?  Mobile is now the leading choice for gaming enthusiasts of all ages.
"Since my computer is a desktop, I can only play it when I'm in my room where my computer is, so my mom lets me play on her phone sometimes when we drive to different places."
DANIELLE LEVITAS, SENIOR VP RESEARCH & MARKETING, APP ANNIE "Today, games represent roughly 80 cents of every dollar spent in app stores. So when you start to think about the fact that roughly $86 billion were spent across all mobile app stores. You are talking about games continuing to dominate."
Founded in Beijing and now headquartered in San Francisco App Annie provides data and planning for mobile publishers.
Levitas says one of the trends that's given mobile gaming a big boost is the Battle Royale genre -- where hundreds of gamers can meet simultaneously and duke it out 'till the end.
DANIELLE LEVITAS, SENIOR VP RESEARCH & MARKETING, APP ANNIE "I think there was an assumption that it doesn't work on mobile, the screen is too small even with large phones and that it wouldn't translate. And I think what we've seen is that there is an appetitive to potentially supplement what we do on the game console and on the PC when we are on the go."
"The game console is too big. You have to focus on everything at once. On phone you can just see everything."
App makers are also creatively finding new ways to get people hooked.
The game I play it gives you rewards when you play daily so I usually play quite a bit a day.
Another trend that has increased mobile gaming ad revenue is rewarded video-where players watch an advertisement and in return get points or rewards.
App Annie's Levitas says the dollar amount spent on mobile games is now about three and a half times greater than console games.
DANIELLE LEVITAS, SENIOR VP RESEARCH & MARKETING, APP ANNIE "The gap has only continued to widen with mobile and I think it has everything to do with the fact that you've an install base of well over 3.5 billion people. And it just makes it an incredibly powerful platform."
MARK NIU SAN FRANCISCO "Levitas expects mobile gaming to become even more dominant in the next two years. But virtual reality could shake things up. VR games often require more powerful systems like consoles and PC's. But even if that swings the balance, it won't take long for app makers to perfect their own mobile VR experiences too.
