China's Central Bank Governor Yi Gang calls for a defense of the multilateral trading system.
He is in Washington for the Annual and Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. The two days of meetings bring together world bankers, ministers of finance, private sector executives, and academics. Many believe trade tensions between China and the US could hurt confidence that is vital for global growth, including IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde. Yi Gang said the frictions bring great uncertainty to financial markets. He reiterated China will continue to reform and open up.
