It’s a long-standing problem after every festive holiday - what to do with your old Christmas tree? Welcomed into a warm home by the family before the Yuletide, once Christmas is over these sad spruces are often just left dumped on the side of the road.

However, a German zoo has come up with a way to recycle Christmas trees – by feeding them to its elephants.

Elephants in the Zoologischer Garten in Berlin, Germany enjoyed their special festive treat on Tuesday.

Needless to say, the prickly spines on the Christmas trees didn’t quite spoil the appetite of these bulky animals.
