The 8th International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians has opened in Tsinghua University in Beijing, one of China's top universities. Wang Qiwei has more about the event.
The International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians, or ICCM, is one of the top events for mathematicians of Chinese descent. This year's congress is held in Tsinghua University in Beijing. Awards were given out to outstanding mathematicians for their research as well as to international scholars for promoting cooperation in the field of mathematics.
Mathematics is often obscure and removed from people's daily life. However, mathematicians stress that basic subjects such as math and science should not be taken for granted.
The Congress is held every three years. Over 300 seminars will also be held in Tsinghua University over the course of six days. Wang Qiwei, CGTN.
