Even though the celebrations for Spring Festival have begun, there are still a lot of people working to make sure the festival goes smoothly and safely, and that includes the soldiers stationed on the border between China and Mongolia. CGTN's Ge Ning is at the border to show us what Chinese New Year is like for them.
This is Erenhot, a city in China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and it's also the border city between China and Mongolia.
GE NINGCGTN REPORTER "This is my first time in Inner Mongolia and I can't believe. Look dinosaurs statue!"
Erenhot is best known for its prehistoric fossils. Over 20 types have been discovered in the region. However, we aren't on this trip to learn about dinosaurs, we're here to visit the border soldiers. For them, Chinese New Year doesn't mean feasts, festivals or family reunions because they have a bigger mission to complete—the protection of our motherland, and it lasts all year long.
This is Yu Chuang, the most senior soldier here. He joined this border troop in 2003 and this is the 6th year that he hasn't been able to go back home for Chinese New Year.
And dumplings are a must during Chinese New Year.
After enjoying a glimpse of the celebrations, Yu has to get back to work.
