Patent applications in China up in first half of 2017

A total of 565,000 applications for invention patents were filed with the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) in the first half of this year, the bureau reported.
The number of patent applications represents a 6.1-percent increase over the same period last year.
As of the end of June, the Chinese mainland held more than 1.22 million patents.

In addition, more than 20,000 applications for Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) were submitted by Chinese applicants through the SIPO in the first half of 2017, said the bureau’s spokesperson, Hu Wenhui.
More than 15,000 patent cases were solved in China in the same period, Hu added, 8,837 of which involved patent disputes, and 8,666 related to patent infringement.
