On Sunday, the Xiong'an New Area - located about 100 kilometers southwest of the Chinese capital - will mark its first year in operation. During the 19th CPC National Congress, General Secretary Xi Jinping addressed the importance of dissolving Beijing's non-capital functions and advance cooperation between Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei province. And that's essentially what the Xiong'an New Area will do. It will have the same national significance as the Shenzhen Special Economic Zong and the Shanghai Pudong New Area. Dozens of infrastructure projects are in progress, which will provide the basic needs for its residents. And as CGTN's Zhao Yunfei reports, Xiong'an is fulfilling its mission to become a green, liveable and smart area through coordinated development.

This will be the public service center of the Xiong'an New Area. Workers are looking to complete the job in two weeks. It will become the New Area's first infrastructure project to be operational. It will be used as a government service center, convention center and office building.

Xiong'an's construction projects are strictly following the path of green development. Baiyangdian -- northern China's largest freshwater wetland -- is one site planners have a close eye on. Over the past year, the local government has cleaned it up and closed many factories which were damaging the local environment More than two million trees were also planted throughout the year.

XU CHENGLI CHINA XIONG'AN CONSTRUCTION AND INVESTMENT GROUP "The wetland is blue and the city forest is green. If we combine the blues and greens in Xiong'an, that is 70% of the total area. 40% of the area in Xiong'an is covered by trees, that's twice of the country's average."

As part of China's measures to advance the concept of "coordinated development", the New Area located in Heibei Province has signed many strategic agreements with its two neighbor municipalities, Beijing and Tianjin. Construction on a rail transit linking Beijing and Xiong'an begun in February. It will eventually shorten travel time between Beijing and Xiong'an to 30 minutes. Some Beijing schools have established campuses in Xiong'an, so the two can share equal education resources. In addition, cooperation in finance, insurance, communication and medical care are also underway.
