Chinese President Xi Jinping held a welcome ceremony with full military honors for his Brazilian counterpart Michel Temer at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Friday.
Temer arrived in Beijing on Thursday for a six-day official visit to China, during which he will also attend the BRICS Summit in Xiamen on September 3-5.
During talks following the ceremony, the two leaders agreed that China and Brazil should deepen their traditional friendship and promote the greater development of the China-Brazil comprehensive strategic partnership.

Xi pointed out that China and Brazil are respectively the largest developing countries in the Eastern and Western hemispheres and two major emerging market economies.
The two countries have made great efforts to maintain effective communication and coordination in issues related to BRICS and the world.
Xi characterized the bilateral ties as mature and solid and expressed belief that bilateral cooperation has been smooth and achieved progress over the years as trade, investment and finance performed well in tandem.
The two countries should continuously promote free trade and deepen cooperation in a variety of areas like infrastructure construction, manufacture, agriculture, mining, energy production and technical innovation, Xi added, noting that expanding communication in culture, press, tourism and sports are also significant.
The Chinese leader underlined the importance of keeping close high-level interactions. The two countries should also use their complementary advantages to enhance communication in various fields. How to synergize the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative with Brazil’s Producer Price Index (PPI) program and Advance Program should be actively discussed by the two sides, Xi said.

Xi reaffirmed the importance of strengthening collaboration in global governance, promoting sustainable development, advancing negotiations of climate change under multilateral frameworks including the UN, G20, and WTO.
The Chinese president indicated that having existed for 10 years, BRICS cooperation, which is based on equality and mutual benefit, is a win-win cooperation. China would like to work with Brazil to help BRICS move forward through economic cooperation, political security and cultural exchanges, and usher in a new golden decade.
Xi also expressed confidence in the relationship between China and Latin America. China is willing to continue communicating and coordinating with Latin America to fulfill their comprehensive partnership.
Temer said Brazil puts emphasis on improving the comprehensive strategic partnership with China.

Brazil is willing to enhance cooperation with China in economy and trade, energy, aviation, agriculture, finance, infrastructure and efforts to combat climate change.
The Brazilian leader said Brazil will fully support China in holding the BRICS Summit and make joint efforts with China to promote the development of BRICS cooperation.
After the meeting, the two leaders witnessed a signing ceremony, during which ten bilateral cooperation documents covering technology, energy, tourism, culture, sports, finance were inked.
Leaders from five BRICS member countries, as well as from Egypt, Guinea, Mexico, Tajikistan and Thailand will gather in Xiamen to discuss cooperation between emerging market economies and developing countries.
