A singing contest designed for birds has kicked off in the southern province of Narathiwat in Thailand. A total of 1,400 birds “flew” to the competition from Singapore, Malaysia and other places in Thailand. /CNS Photo
These birds are placed in ornate bamboo cages which are covered with colorful fabric. When the competition starts, the cages are lifted high in the air. /CNS Photo
Judges listen to the birds chirping and give out their comments based on the birds’ melody, pitch, clarity, stamina, modulation and volume, according to Lonely Planet. The winner will be awarded a trophy and cash prize. /CNS Photo
The contest is held annually and is one of the biggest bird-singing contests in the country. /CNS Photo
