As NPC delegates discuss the big issues at home, some attention is now shifting to matters abroad. Case in point - China's trade and cooperation with Africa. CGTN's Uche Okoronkwo brings us more on that.
Deputies from Hunan Province, Central China, continue mulling over the NPC's decision to use further tax cuts to prop up the private sector. But discussion also turns to the upcoming China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo. The joint Sino-African event, which will be a first for Africa and China, will be held in Hunan's capital of Changsha.
XU DAZHE GOVERNOR OF HUNAN PROVINCE "Hunan will work to establish cooperation with Africa at the provincial level. We will improve exchange in agriculture, infrastructure and culture. We would like to share our experience in development with Africa."
UCHE OKORONWO BEIJING "The expo will be part of a number of promises made by President Xi Jinping during the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation. To solidify relations, President Xi had said China would launch an industrial promotion initiative, aimed at encouraging Chinese companies to increase their investments in Africa. He also pledged to increase imports from Africa, help promote African products and support the African Continental Free Trade Area."
Slated for June of this year, officials are expected to sign bilateral agreements and establish new mechanisms for future economic cooperation.
The theme of the fair will be "Win-win collaboration", a theme that Africans hope will reflect economic gains in its own private sector.
CAMARA MOUSSA MALIAN JOURNALIST "This expoxhition will be a good oppotunity for Africa and African people because it will allow them to bring local products in China and exchange with Chinese people, and Chinese will showcase their products. So they may exchange experience."
Hunan will become a permanent host of the fair, which will take place once every two years. The province already has over 120 firms operating in Africa, estimating its trade volume with African countries at about 2.8 billion US dollars in 2018.
