China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi is in Pyongyang, the first visit by a top diplomat from Beijing in more than ten years. Wang met with Ri Yong Ho --- his counterpart from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Earlier, Wang paid his respects to the two DPRK past leaders. He also laid a wreath at the Sino-Korean Friendship Tower that honors the Chinese soldiers who fought with the DPRK during the Korean War. Wang also said that China wishes dialogue between the DPRK and the US would go smoothly and achieve substantial progress. Beijing hopes the visit will maintain momentum for peace on the peninsula. LI JIANHUA BEIJING "In the regular press briefing of the foreign ministry, the spokesperson says China supports denuclearization on the peninsula and calls for dialogue to ease tensions, which is the main task of Wang Yi's trip this time."
HUA CHUNYING SPOKESPERSON, CHINESE FOREIGN MINISTRY"China has always insisted on a denuclearized Korean Peninsula in order to maintain peace and stability in the region. We have always insisted on finding a solution that responds to the appropriate concerns of all relevant parties through dialogue and negotiation. I think everybody remembers that China has proposed a double-suspension and dual-track approach to resolve the Korean Peninsula issue, so as to simultaneously push forward the denuclearization and the establishment of a peace mechanism on the Korean Peninsula. Only in this way can the peninsula eventually realize longterm peace."
LI JIANHUA BEIJING "Beijing hopes the two Koreas should work on a peace treaty to officially end the wars on the peninsula. Li Jianhua, CGTN, Beijing."
