Gift exchange is not only a part of diplomatic etiquette, but also a way to promote bilateral relations. Chinese President Xi Jinping always prepares customized gifts for his fellow leaders, showing his level of thoughtfulness.
South African President Jacob Zuma was born in the year of the horse, a detail that did not go unnoticed by President Xi. During their December 2015 meeting, President Xi presented a drawing of a horse to his guest, symbolizing his flourishing country and career.
In April 2013, at the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum, the first lady of Finland received a special gift from President Xi -- cake and birthday wishes from China's first family and head of state.
Intimate gifts close the distance between nations and foster an exchange of cultures and ideas, while deepening understanding.
