The Chinese border city of Khorgos is located on the border with Kazakhstan. For years, the geographical advantage of Khorgos has fulfill many people's business dreams. The local preferential policies and the country's Belt and Road Initiative have supported many companies succeed. CGTN's Zhao Yunfei reports.

Another busy morning in the border port city of Khorgos.

Workers are loading these boxes of fresh fruits and vegetables, which are ready to clear customs.

It takes as long as three days for those apples and oranges to travel from different parts of China to here in Khorgos.

But in just two hours, they'll be in markets all over Kazakhstan.

YU CHENGZHONG GENERAL MANAGER, KHORGOS JINYI INTERNATIONAL TRADE COMPANY "In recent years, Central Asian countries have relied heavily on fruit and vegetable imports from China. It's because the quality of China's agricultural products has gotten much better."

Yu Chengzhong was a vendor and farmer when he first came to Xinjiang 30 years ago.

Back then, he never thought about selling products abroad.

But as his company grew larger, he hired more local farmers.

Yu's dedication to the community influenced his daughter to join him.

YU HUAN ASSISTANT MANAGER, KHORGOS JINYI INTERNATIONAL TRADE COMPANY "Many in Khorgos feel a pressure to alleviate poverty. My father hopes to help his farmers learn something from the company."

As the assistant manager, Yu Huan cares about the employees' experience at the company.

At a garment factory just blocks away, she buys New Year's gifts for workers while supporting a neighbor business.

And 100 percent of the factory's sewing workers also come from rural families in Xinjiang.

XU SIHU MANAGER, XINJIANG HONGDOU GARMENT COMPANY "We aim to create an industry model to support the development of Xinjiang. It also supports national unity."

So far, their products are sold across much of China.

But the company plans to take another step toward export more goods in the near future.
